Good Shepherd Preschool’s curriculum is based on the theory that play is the most appropriate way for young children to learn. Through a variety of thematic units and hands on learning activities, children are provided with developmentally appropriate experiences, designed to foster confidence and curiosity through exploration and discovery. When not limited by a pandemic, our classroom curriculum is augmented with enrichment activities, including field trips, yoga, puppet shows, musical groups, and animal exhibits.
All classes have daily music and movement and regularly scheduled visits to our S.T.E.M. Lab.

Our Staff
Our teachers are carefully chosen for their excellent qualifications and their love and understanding of young children. Each class has a Head Teacher and an Assistant Teacher who work together as a team. Everyone on staff has bachelors degrees. Good Shepherd Preschool is fortunate to have very little, if any, turnover of teachers.
Most of our staff members were, themselves, parents of preschoolers at Good Shepherd and chose to stay with Good Shepherd Preschool after their children “graduated”. Not only did our Director’s children attend, but she also attended Good Shepherd Preschool when she was little!
The entire staff completes:
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Health and TB screenings
- FBI fingerprint background checks
- VA State Police background checks
- VA Department of Social Services background searches
- Episcopal Diocesan Workshops on the Prevention of misconduct and abuse
Additionally, there is always a staff member present who is certified in Medication Administration.
